About Red Rooster Coffee Roaster Congo Sopacdi

Over 5,600 farmers from different ethnic groups in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, have come together to form Sopacdi. This cooperative promotes reconciliation between ethnic groups, bringing people together to work and to promote practical ways to move forward.

In May of 2010, Haden and Rose began roasting coffee on a 3 kilo electric roaster, affectionately called the “red rooster.” Freshly engaged to be married, the two renovated the back of Rose’s mother’s bookstore into a small coffee roastery and retail store. 6 years later, Red Rooster is still pursuing excellence in small batches, with a focus on fair trade, organic, and transparent coffees.
